Dr. Susan (“Sue”) Granquist brings her expertise in English, communication, and test prep to Shining Students Tutoring. With a strong academic foundation and a diverse professional background, Sue brings a teaching philosophy that highlights the critical importance of communication skills as the cornerstone of both personal and academic success. Her approach to education is focused on creating an engaging, student-centered learning environment where students not only master English writing and mechanics but also develop critical thinking skills and a passion for articulate expression. Sue believes these competencies are essential across all disciplines and is dedicated to empowering students to express themselves confidently, think critically, and communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms. Sue has taught writing and public speaking at Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and has served as a communications coach at prominent companies such as Abbott Laboratories and CDW. Her academic credentials include a Doctoral degree from Northcentral University, an MBA from Lake Forest, and a Master’s in Program Management from George Washington University. She also holds undergraduate degrees in Criminal Psychology and Renaissance Literature from Aurora University. As a leader in Operations and Engineering program management, with extensive experience in medical device development and wireless telecommunications, Sue specializes in hardware and software engineering, IT operations, risk management, cost containment, and global business programs. In addition to her technical expertise, Sue has written a weekly pop culture column for an online magazine for nearly twenty years. She believes that her diverse experience in writing for academic, business, and entertainment purposes enables her to provide students with a well-rounded perspective, helping them to broaden their comprehension and execution of the written word in both academic and personal contexts. Sue is passionate about fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment, where students are encouraged to actively participate, engage in meaningful discussions, and develop the skills necessary for success in their academic endeavors.
